Mac Barnett’s Visit

The ever-charming Mac Barnett paid us a visit a while back.  The students who saw him say it was one of the best days of the year.


First, we experienced COUNT THE MONKEYS in all its exuberant, participatory glory.





We heard the tale of how Mac’s first book (Billy Twitters and His Blue Whale Problem) was published.  There were pirates, dragons, and an ocean filled with Mac’s tears.  Mac helpfully provided a diagram.

The story was tragic at times, especially when the boat carrying the hot-off-the-press books got lost in the Bermuda Triangle and emerged with all the books printed backwards.  But I don’t know if the kids believed it all.


Afterwards, the kids cracked Mac up with their favorite jokes–some written by themselves!  For example,

Question: What do you call a fly that likes to buzz around your feet?
Answer: A Shoe-fly.
