Rocket Writes a Story

written and illustrated by Tad Hills
Published by Schwartz & Wade/Random House
2012

With encouragement from his teacher, the little yellow bird, Rocket uses his newfound words to tell about his new friend. Simple, bold, oil and colored pencil illustrations. (3-5)

A young reviewer says:
Oh, I know Rocket and I really like him.  He wants to write a story and the yellow bird has to help him.  He tells Rocket to find new words and then Rocket makes a word tree and hangs the words on it.  Rocket gets more and more words and he counted the words on the tree to make sure there were more words each time. Then he uses the words in a story. I really like Rocket because he likes to read and so do I and because I like to make up stories, too.
